NetSpeed keeps current network throughput visible without opening Activity Monitor. It is a native, lightweight macOS menu-bar app with launch-at-login and signed in-app updates.
What it does
Installation
macOS 14 Sonoma or newer. Homebrew is required for the supported installation method.
Run the verified cask command in Terminal.
brew install --cask rahul230892/tap/netspeedLaunch NetSpeed once from Applications or Spotlight. The live indicator will appear in your menu bar.
Use Check for Updates… inside the app, or update through Homebrew.
brew upgrade --cask netspeedNetSpeed reads byte counters maintained by macOS for active network interfaces. It does not inspect packet contents, store browsing activity, or send network statistics to a server. Network access is used for its signed update feed and update archives on GitHub.
NetSpeed is not Apple-notarized. The verified Homebrew cask removes quarantine only from the installed app bundle; update archives are authenticated with Sparkle signatures. Install only from the linked tap or GitHub repository.
Removal
This keeps your preferences.
brew uninstall --cask netspeedUse the zap option only when you also want to clear NetSpeed preferences.
brew uninstall --cask --zap netspeed“I wanted the current state of my connection to be glanceable, native, and out of the way. NetSpeed is that single-purpose tool.”
